Our Wedding

The beginning

In June of 2023, a summer that had record-breaking highs in Dallas, Jack asked Melanie to meet him at Community Beer Company to get to know one another. Melanie brought along her goofy, husky pup Finley, who Jack instantly bonded with and is likely the biggest reason why we're celebrating today. During the first few months of dating, Melanie learned about his love of the Iowa Hawkeyes and how he does in fact have an accent (no matter how much he denies it), while Jack learned that enjoying the heat in Chicago doesn't translate to enjoying the heat in Texas. Jack also learned that Melanie doesn't just love her own dogs, but any dog that walks up to her doorstep (or that she finds online that needs to be saved). The fact that Jack didn't run away from this, but welcomed it, only made her love him more.

The next step

Throughout their time together, they have enjoyed strategizing on ways to improve their 1926 Tudor, where their next trip will take them, and how to not get too caught up in the day-to-day of life. Both Jack and Melanie are so excited to celebrate this next step in their story with you and appreciate you making the time and effort to show your love!

What should I wear?

Attire for the wedding is formal. Ladies, for you this means you are encouraged to wear a floor-length dress, but if you prefer a knee-length cocktail dress, then please feel free. Please no sundresses, casual maxi dresses, or white dresses. Gentlemen, a tailored, dark-colored suit (with or without a tie) is encouraged. Please no jeans.

Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?

While we are still deciding where the ceremony will be held, cocktail hour will be held outdoors and dinner will be held indoors. If rain is an issue the day of, everything will be held indoors.

What is the weather like in Dallas in October?

October is a wonderful time to visit Dallas with the highs topping out at around 80 degrees and lows sitting around 60 degrees. Rain is not usually a large a concern and the trees still have leaves on them. However, Dallas is famous for bad allergies throughout the year, so we recommend you come prepared with your preferred allergy medication.&nbsp;

How do I get to the White Sparrow?

Please plan your transportation accordingly based on the following options: SHUTTLE: We will have complimentary shuttles leaving from the Hilton in Rockwall departing at 4:00pm CT and arriving at the White Sparrow. To return to the Hilton, we will have two shuttle busses leaving the White Sparrow at designated times: 8:30pm CT and 10:00pm CT. UBER: Ubers are a popular service in DFW and we encourage this option if not taking the shuttle busses. We want everyone to get home safely. A special note: While Ubers are easier to come by in Rockwall, late night in Quinlan they are uncommon so if you plan on returning home/to the hotel via Uber, please schedule these rides in advance. Or consider taking the shuttle to the Hilton and snagging an Uber from there. DRIVE: If you prefer to drive, there is a large parking lot on property within yards to the main barn and wedding chapel. However, cars are not allowed to stay overnight after the reception and if they are left behind, they will be towed at the owner's expense.

Airport Options

There are two airports that service the DFW metroplex: 1| Dallas Love Field:- 29 miles from the Hilton Rockwall- Primarily Southwest Airlines and some Delta flights 2| Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport:- 41 miles from the Hilton Rockwall- American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta, and most other airlines- If arriving into DFW and renting a car - we highly suggest taking President George Bush Turnpike (toll road) rather than 635. 635 is under construction which makes already bad Dallas drivers, that much worse.

Transportation

To get to Rockwall from the airports, you may either rent a car or use a ride service (Uber or Lyft). There are no public forms of transportation from the airports out to Rockwall.

THE STATE FAIR OF TEXAS

If you like a gigantic ferris wheel, carney games, live music, and fried foods galore (we fry just about everything), you can't miss The Texas State Fair! This fair is crowned the largest state fair in the US! It ends on October 19th, so you don't want to miss a photo-op with Big Tex! If you can't make the time this trip, you'll just need to come back and visit! Get all the details: www.bigtex.com

The Harbor Rockwall

Boat Cruise on the Lake

Bass Pro Shop

Just across the east side of the lake, feel free to poke around Outdoor World. Multi-level shop with everything you can imagine to experience the great outdoors. They also have waterfalls, a shooting range (think fair/saloon style), and fish/turtle feedings on Saturdays at 1pm.
